Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust was formed in October 2019, following the merger of 2gether NHS Foundation Trust and Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust. The two Trusts joined together to provide integrated mental health, physical health and learning disability services to communities.


Gloucestershire Health & Care Foundation Trust provides Mental Health and specialist Learning Disability services across the counties of Gloucestershire and Herefordshire. The Trust was approved by the Secretary of State as a Foundation Trust from July 2007. The Trust has recently been rated overall as ’Good’ by the CQC for the second consecutive time, with acute wards for adults of working age and crisis services both being rated as ‘Outstanding’.

Herefordshire offers excellent living and working prospects. Nearby are the Wye Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; the Forest of Dean; the Malvern Hills; and the Brecon Beacons National Park; with easy access to the M5 and M50. Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff and Cheltenham are all within easy reach of Herefordshire. The area also has the benefit of outstanding schools and a rich cultural life. Surrounding the small city of Hereford there are many attractive villages set in beautiful countryside and five busy small market towns.

The successful candidate will provide senior medical advice, support, consultancy and clinical leadership to the Department for Mental Health of Older Adults community and inpatient services (South Herefordshire subsector).

It is expected the postholder will play a major role in the clinical leadership, to ensure a high quality of care is provided to Herefordshire service users. As part of this role they would be expected to work in partnership with the team managers responsible for these services. There will be an expectation to take part in general management issues that will be shared amongst all their consultant colleagues.

You will be expected to work as part of both community and inpatient multidisciplinary teams and liaise with other statutory and voluntary agencies. To carry out clinics and domiciliary visits consisting of routine and urgent new patient assessments and review/follow up appointments for older adult service users with severe/enduring, and/or organic mental disorder and complex needs; inpatient responsibilities include patients admitted to both functional and organic assessment wards. These roles and responsibilities are shared with the WTE consultant colleague who covers the North Herefordshire subsector.

The on call commitment for this post is inclusion in the county-wide consultant on call rota; 1 in 11 covering all specialties.
