Medical Devices Safety Officer (MDSO)(Permanent)

Salary: Band 6 (£30,401 - £37,267)

Location: Fulwood House

Hours: 22.5 hours per week

Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a part time Medical Devices Safety Officer (MDSO) to work with the Trust’s Quality team. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our team based at Fulwood.

The MDSO will be responsible for promoting the safe use of medical devices across the Trust, acting as a link/resource for clinical staff and providing specialist advice in medical device safety. The MDSO will be the key link between the Trust and the Medicines & Healthcare Regulatory Authority (MHRA) for medical devices.

The successful candidate will be a registered nurse and will lead and support the investigations of serious device related incidents or significant near misses to determine root causes, implementing the necessary changes to policies, procedures or device user training to reduce the likelihood of reoccurrence as far as is practically possible. They will work closely with operational teams and help manage relevant contracts held by the Trust and those that the Trust interacts with. The successful candidate will be integral to the formation and delivery of the Trust’s strategy on medical device procurement and maintenance. The post holder will be confident in providing specialist advice to Clinical Staff, Senior Management and Estates Officers on the specification and maintenance of appropriate devices to support clinical need

As this is a new post, the ability to build and develop excellent relationships with clinical staff, colleagues in support services, suppliers and external stakeholders is of paramount importance to ensure the role functions effectively and improvements to safety are made and sustained.
