An exciting opportunity has risen to join and develop your existing driving skills within the Driver training department of South Central Ambulance Service as an Education Facilitator-Driving on a full time permanent contract.

You will work as part of the Human Resources Directorate within the Education Centres, liaising closely with the Head of Education for Quality Assurance, Driving & Commercial Development, Senior Education Manager-Driving, Education Managers-Driving, the Driving Standards Manager and Operational Managers throughout the Trust. This post will require occasional Saturday working.

The primary purpose of the role is to provide support to the Senior Education Manager-Driving by working with the team to deliver the non-Accredited Driving Education portfolio, to include Solo Response driving courses and assessments, PTS driver training and responder driving courses. You will also be expected to conduct all types of driving assessments across the organisation.

Other duties include responsibility for the promotion, enhancement and evaluation of long term education and development needs in relation to driving, with particular reference to Road Traffic Law, the Road Safety Act 2006, Accident Prevention, Audit and the Corporate Governance agenda.

Must be able to demonstrate a driving instruction ability and qualification from a variety of experiences, ideally within an Emergency Service or equivalent setting.

This is a key role and offers an exciting opportunity for someone with enthusiasm and dedication to the raising of standards within the largest Ambulance driver training department in the country.

You must have relevant Driving Qualifications hold a Current valid GB/EU driving licence (including full category C1 entitlement held for a minimum of 3 years as well as a maximum of 3 current penalty points).

You will already hold the Level 4 Certificate in Education & Training or equivalent, and ideally be working towards a Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement or equivalent such as A1-D32/33.

You will also be able to demonstrate a good understanding of current and pending road traffic legislation, Health & Safety guidance for managing on road risk and relevant aspects of the Corporate Manslaughter Act 2007.


Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are essential as you will be required to liaise with a number of contacts both internally and externally.

Short-listed candidates will be required to attend a panel interview and assessment process at our Driving Education centre in Newbury.
