This role offers a Recruitment Retention Allowance of £1500 per annum to the successful candidate. This will be pro-rata where part time hours are undertaken.

An exciting opportunity for a Part-Time Band 3 Dental Nurse working 15 hours per week, based at Alanbrooke Barracks in Topcliffe has arisen.

Our successful candidate will be accountable to the Senior Dental Officer through their line management and will provide clinical and administrative support for the provision of dental care in Defence Dental Service centres, to enhance force generation and operational capability and minimise dental morbidity on operations.

Main responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to;

  • Ensuring their surgeries are prepared appropriately for the day’s patients in accordance with current regulations.
  • Carrying out and recording daily maintenance, servicing and pre-use checks of dental equipment reporting defects in accordance with current equipment care policies. Ensuring a daily test radiograph is taken and processed with all findings reported in accordance with extant policies and signed off by a clinician or trained individual.
  • Maintaining the standard and cleanliness of the surgery and accommodation for which they are responsible, reporting any deficiencies in accordance with local protocols.
  • Reviewing the appointment diary at the start of each session.
  • Selecting appropriate instrument sets for each planned procedure.
  • Preparing, mixing and handling dental materials in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions; adhering to Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations and Safety Data sheets.
  • Managing the patient appointment system.
  • Managing dental records (manual and electronic).
  • Managing the receipt, despatch and documentation of dental prosthetic appliances, ensuring timely appointments for patients as necessary.
  • Ordering consumables and equipment using the system.

The successful candidate must hold the following:

  • National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) Certificate or NVQ in Oral Health Care Dental Nursing Level 3.
  • Must be registered with the General Dental Council (GDC).

Candidates who hold the qualifications but are not yet registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) are eligible to apply for this vacancy. However, if found successful it is a requirement that you are registered with the GDC prior to starting in the post.

It is essential to have the following:

  • A full UK driving licence

Experience and competence in the following areas;

  • Clinical Skills - Clinically competent and current with all aspects of dental nursing in a general dental practice environment. This must include complete familiarity with HTM 01-05, Decontamination in primary care dental practices.
  • IT Skills. Familiarity and competence in the use of electronic healthcare records.
  • Professional guidelines. Awareness of all contemporary professional guidance, e.g. NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence), GDC (General Dental Council) and the Society of British Dental Nurses (SBDN).
