Service/Ward/Department Summary:

Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust Rehabilitation and High Support Directorate provides Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services to patients from the Greater Manchester and North West area. The directorate is renowned for high quality service delivery, excellent staff opportunities and innovative service developments, having expanded bed numbers more than three fold in the past eight years. We continue to explore and develop new services for specialist mental health provision.

Beckett ward is a stepdown rehabilitation unit for 10 females. Hurst ward is a 15 bedded rehabilitation unit for males. Most patients are detained and have longer term needs.

Role Summary:
To provide Specialty Doctor medical cover as part of the MDT to Beckett and Hurst wards supported by 1.0 wte Consultant.
Special Interest sessions can be provided and research opportunities are available.

Key Responsibilities of the Post:
The postholder will provide Specialty Doctor care for inpatients with severe and often intractable psychoses requiring longer-term care, as well as providing tertiary assessment and consultation under supervision. There will be opportunities to be first or second on call, depending on the post holder’s experience.
The unit has GP cover for primary care physical conditions.

Key Requirements of the Person Specification:
The applicant will have demonstrable post graduate psychiatric training experience and preferably have experience in Rehabilitation Psychiatry.

All new starters to Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust who are appointed to a post which requires a Disclosure Barring Certificate check (DBS) will be recharged for the full cost of the check. Substantive staff will have the amount deducted from their first months’ salary. Members to the Trust bank must repay the full amount from their first pay. The Trust encourages all staff and bank workers to register with the DBS update service at an annual cost of £13, for bank members this is obligatory. The cost of an enhanced DBS check is £40 and for a standard check £23, both attract an administration charge of £3.50.
