If the answer is yes, you would be well-suited to the Part Time Band 5 Civilian Dental Hygienist role we have available at Dental Centre Dental Centre Larkhill.

A Market Skills Supplement of £5,750 per annum (pro rata) will be offered to the successful candidate

Primarily, the successful candidate will provide dental treatment, oral hygiene instruction & education, and any other appropriate clinical procedure as prescribed by a Dental Officer in support of the Defence Primary Health Care (DPHC) Dental Oral Health Strategy. You'll work towards improving and maintaining the dental health of entitled personnel. In addition to this the candidate will provide the Senior Dental Officer with clinical and administrative support to enable the primary purpose to be achieved.

Duties of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Carrying out work under the direction of a registered dentist who has examined the patient and indicated in writing the course of treatment to be provided. This is in accordance with the Dental Auxiliary Regulations 1986, as amended by the Dental Auxiliaries (amended) Regulations 1991.
  • Administering local anaesthetic when specifically prescribed by a Dental Officer.
  • Ensuring that not less than 6.5 hours per day in 2 sessions are set aside for appointed patients, and to undertake treatment at local Units as directed by the Senior Dental Officer and Principal Dental Officer.
  • Managing surgery to a high standard at all times with respect to cleanliness, equipment maintenance (including end-of-day), documentation and security.
  • Carrying out preventive cross infection procedures including sterilisation of instruments and materials.
  • In conjunction with the receptionist, overseeing and maintaining own appointment book by liaising between Dental Officer and patients concerning appointments.
  • Overseeing or taking lead on any National Health Campaigns or organised promotions within the dental department.

Please note the position is Part Time and for 31 hours per week.

Experience of Healthcare Governance and Leadership along with a competence in the use of Information Systems would be desirable.

Successful candidates will be required to provide evidence of the following:

  • Knowledge of range of oral health procedures; acquired through training to degree level or to diploma level plus experience to degree equivalent level.
  • Full registration with the General Dental Council.
  • Immunity to Hepatitis B including the immunisation levels e.g. >100miu/ml.

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is security check.
