Maternity Directorate

Job ref: (allocated by the Recruitment Team)

AFC Band 7

Hours: 37.5 per week (Full time).

The Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust have an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced and inspirational midwifery leader to join our team. Following the National Maternity review ‘Better Births,’ it is clear that models of care where women know the midwife who is caring for them throughout their journey, have a positive impact on improving safety, clinical outcomes, as well as a better birth experience. This will also have an impact on reducing pre-term births, hospital admissions, and the need for intervention during labour. At the Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, we have successfully launched our initial Continuity of Carer teams and the plans are to enable more women to access this model of care through the introduction of further teams.

The Continuity of Carer teams also incorporate the Homebirth team, who actively promote homebirth thereby offering women and their families’ choice and personalisation of care. Maternity Support Workers have been successfully embedded into the homebirth team, working as a second attendant at homebirths for women receiving midwifery led care. The teams were recognised in 2019 for their dedication and were nominated for ‘Team of the Year’ and ‘Midwifery Support Worker of the Year’.

In continuing with our successes and developing the continuity of carer teams further, we are looking for a dynamic leader who will continue to push boundaries and facilitate the deliverance of outstanding care.

If you wish to discuss this position further please contact Clare Cheatham (Community and Homebirth Matron) on 0121 472 1377 ext:5034.
