An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, dedicated and experienced Orthopaedic Trauma or MSK Physiotherapist to lead the award winning Virtual Fracture Clinic (VFC) service and work alongside our Orthopaedic Consultants in an extended scope role. It provides an excellent opportunity for a clinician looking to develop or extend advanced clinical practice experience. This position is advertised as either a fixed term or secondment contract to cover maternity leave; the applicant is welcome to express their preference. The post is advertised at 30 hours per week; consideration can be given to full time hours if the candidate is successful to the interview stage.

The Virtual Fracture Clinic is an integrated service in conjunction with Trauma Orthopaedic Consultants. The current service delivers conservative management for adult patients with new fractures or soft tissue injuries to the whole body excluding the wrist, hand and spine. We have separate hand and wrist and paediatric virtual clinics.

This post will be based in the Fracture Clinic managing the VFC service and continuing its development, including digital development projects, clinical research, audit and engagement in national and local virtual clinic opportunities/networks. The successful candidate will also work alongside Orthopaedic Consultants in an extended role developing advance clinical practice competencies in assessing and treating patients in face to face fracture clinics.

The successful candidate will competently triage patients with Consultant review, provide advice and management plans and supervise the VFC team. Training in relevant extended skills will be provided as required. You should have a dynamic and visionary approach, and the drive to bring about change and service improvements. Your team will include two Band 6 physiotherapists and an administrator. Funding is currently being sought for a Band 7 physiotherapist. You should have experience in MSK assessment and in managing orthopaedic trauma, particularly acute fractures and soft tissue injuries of the limbs. You should be able to providing training and leadership to physiotherapy staff and have evidence of building effective relationships with other teams and services.

The Virtual Fracture Clinic has received 3 national awards and received outstanding on the trusts CQC report. The service was recently featured in the Topol Review as a case study for digital healthcare models. BSUH is the Major Trauma Centre for the South East Coast. BSUH is currently undergoing a capital redevelopment programme to become the major Teaching, Trauma and Tertiary hospital in the South East of England.
