Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is a large NHS organisation that offers clinical and social care services to children, young people, adults and older adults, with emotional and mental health problems or learning disabilities.

Due to the creation of this new post, the Trust is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment team for 5 sessions and to provide one session for patient flow work. The role will be based at Swandean Hospital, Worthing.

Patient flow is a newly developed role, across Coastal West Sussex (AAW and the Chichester and Bognor Regis areas). The post holder will undertake activities to support patient flow through the in-patient wards in Coastal West Sussex (Oakland’s working age in-patient ward in Chichester, Orchard older persons in-patient ward in Chichester, Rowan and Maple wards – working age in-patient wards in Meadowfield hospital in Worthing and Larch older persons in-patient ward in Worthing). You will feed into the patient pathway steering group and undertake audits relating to patient flow and other tasks as assigned by this group. You will also attend complex case review panel discussions about patients with a high degree of complexity on in-patient wards as a panellist.

It is essential for the post holder to have a close working relationship with in-patient and ATS colleagues in this role.

This post is one example of the commitment of the Trust to develop better provision and capacity for Worthing Crisis team and the families and carers using the services in challenging times. This post completes the medical establishment of the crisis team providing a minimum of 1.0 whole time equivalent Consultant Psychiatrists for the crisis team and 0.1 WTE consultant dedicated to patient flow work.

As part of the role, you will be part of a Trust wide consultant network where there are opportunities to liaise with colleagues in other in-patient posts throughout the Trust and develop peer networks. You will also see consultant peers weekly at the local academic programme, at regular division meetings in the locality and at clinical governance meetings.
