Specialist Biomedical Scientist Band 6 - Full Time with 5% Recruitment & Retention Premium

We are seeking an enthusiastic HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist with great interpersonal skills and a high degree of self-motivation to join the team. Working as an integral part of the laboratory team you will provide a specialist technical role in the Bacteriology and Virology sections of the department, helping to deliver a high level of service quality.  The post is aimed at biomedical scientists holding a specialist portfolio to work at Band 6 who have knowledge and experience of Health & Safety in the Laboratory environment or the ability to undertaken training in relevant Health & Safety subjects.

This post is currently subject to a Recruitment & Retention Premium (RRP) of 5% on top of your salary pay point – the Recruitment & Retention Premium (RRP) is applicable to Band 5, Band 6 and Band 7 Biomedical Scientists for an initial period of 12 months until June 2020. The RRP will be reviewed against recruitment and retention statistics including turnover to measure its effectiveness during this time.

You will join our excellent Pathology Service which has full accreditation as a HCPC/IBMS Training Laboratory, ISO:15189 accreditation throughout and HSE compliance.

The Microbiology Department at the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is part of the Pathology service providing a diagnostic Microbiology service to the Trust and community.  You will be responsible for reading benches, authorising some result types, supervision of MLA and AP staff and have responsibility for equipment use and maintenance. This post will have specific responsibility as the Health & Safety Lead supporting a safe service in line with national standards and supporting our HSE registration.

Current employees should be aware that this position is advertised as a GWH position and appointment ends any TUPE protection.

All candidates are required to pay for their own DBS check where applicable. Standard DBS check costs £26 and will be recovered from your first pay; Enhanced DBS check costs £44 and will be split and recovered over the first 2 pay.

Bank posts requiring a DBS check; payment must be made prior to commencing.

Apprentices are exempt from payment.
