DPHC is a vibrant and fast-moving organisation that aims to provide the very best primary healthcare to Defence personnel and in some locations, their families and dependants. In addition to General Practice, DPHC provides rehabilitation services, occupational health advice and community mental health support. The patient population is generally young and healthy and much of the work relates to occupational health, minor injuries and sports medicine.

Duties of this post include, but are not limited to;

  • Assisting with the care of patients with chronic illnesses e.g. Asthma, Diabetes, CHD and hypertension ensuring continued maintenance of the Chronic Disease Register.
  • Triaging and treating patients with minor illness/injuries.
  • Assisting the Practice and Nursing Managers with maintaining an effective recall system for Immunisation/Chronic Disease/Cytology and provide appropriate clinics.
  • Co-ordinating care of patients, referring to and liaising with other agencies and disciplines.
  • Administering and supplying medicines in accordance with Patient Group Directions and DPHC policies and guidelines.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the healthcare service within the medical facility maintaining consistency of professional standards through audit and healthcare governance and the application of risk management systems.
  • Supervising and assessing clinical and administrative staff performance and development and conducting performance review process.

Qualifications and Memberships

Applicants must hold the following qualifications and licences;

  • Specialist knowledge across a range of procedures underpinned by theory. A Registered Nurse with professional knowledge acquired through degree/diploma, supplemented by diploma level specialist training, experience, short courses.
  • Must be a Registered Nurse, with live registration on Part 1 of the NMC Register and hold a valid and in date Personal Identification Number (PIN) with no restriction of practice.

It is desirable for the applicant to have the following;

  • Three additional post registration Primary Healthcare Nursing related qualifications specific but not limited to: Clinical Supervision, management of Long Term Conditions, Asthma, Diabetes, Travel health, CHD, Family Planning/cervical cytology, Smoking Cessation.
  • Mentorship Qualification (ENB 998 / SLAiP / Prep for Mentorship).
  • In-date BLS, Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

The selection at sift stage will be CV based. At interview, you will be tested against the following NHS Key Skills Framework dimensions.

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.
