Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Paediatrician with a special interest in Diabetes to be based at the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Hospital in Cramlington on a full time or part time basis.

The successful candidate will have expertise in general paediatrics and diabetes and will have completed a SPIN module in Paediatric Diabetes. You will have a major role in the development of the Children’s Unit and Children’s Diabetes Service at the Northumbria Hospital.

You will work alongside other consultant paediatricians and participate in the training of junior doctors and paediatric nurse practitioners in the department. When not consultant of the week you will have regular clinics at either Wansbeck or North Tyneside General Hospital, including one general paediatric clinic and at least one diabetes clinics.

To provide some context, the Northumbria Paediatric Diabetes service provides care and support to approximately 130 children and young people with diabetes across North Tyneside and Northumberland.

Upon joining the service, you will be 1 of 2 consultants in a well-established and friendly multi-disciplinary team including; a specialty doctor, specialist nurses, dietitians, a psychologist and a support worker.

We are very proud of the service we provide and of the improvement in our outcome measure over recent years. In the 2017/18 NPDA we achieved a clinic median HbA1C of 58mmol/mol, placing us 3rd best in the country. We are also currently participating in the RCPCH QI Project with a focus on transitional care.

This post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week which includes some on-site working in the evenings and at weekends. There is an overnight on call commitment of 1 in 8 nights but no overnight resident duties.
