If the answer is yes, you would be well-suited to join the Ministry of Defence as a Band 5 Civilian Pharmacy Technician to join the Team at HMS Collingwood, Fareham.

You will be part of a friendly team providing a first-class medical service for military personnel and entitled civilians. The working environment is welcoming, inclusive and supportive, and you will be valued for the skills you bring.

The role of DPHC is to provide and commission a safe, effective and efficient healthcare service for entitled personnel contributing to the maximisation of Service personnel fit for task as agreed with the single Services. This is achieved through the provision of an occupationally aware primary healthcare service which includes dental, rehabilitation and mental healthcare services.

The successful applicants’ main duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Safely and accurately dispensing all medicinal products to patients as prescribed by the Medical Practitioner. Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) Practices operate under Dispensing Doctor Regulations, so the Pharmacy Technician will work unassisted, and unsupervised by a Pharmacist and will therefore be responsible for self-checking.
  • Procurement, receipt, safe custody, storage, audit and dispensing of all medicinal products and equipment including Controlled and Accountable Drugs, in accordance with SOPs.
  • Stock management and pre-labelling of those medicinal products supplied by Nurses and Combat Medical Technicians.
  • Complying with current legislation, policies and guidance regarding security, health and safety and patient confidentiality.
  • Assessing of potential pharmacy related hazards within the working environment.
  • Submitting reports and pharmacy related statistics as required by DPHC procedures.

Qualifications and Memberships

  • Registration with GPhC (achieved via qualifications and/or experience meeting the registration requirements as a Pharmacy Technican with the GPhC) – plus other additional training for checking dispensed prescriptions without further reference. Practical experience to be able to operate in a singleton post.
  • Registered as a Member the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with theGeneral Pharmaceutical Council

The selection at sift stage will be based on your CV. At interview, you will be tested against the following competencies:-

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is security check.

Please be aware that if you are found successful you will be asked to provide evidence of your immunity to Hepatitis B.

Please note the salary will be pro-rata where part time hours are undertaken.

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.
