An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 Clinical Psychologist’s to join our ever growing Positive behaviour, Autism, Learning disability, Mental health Service (PALMS) Team.

PALMS offers individually tailored support for children and young people (CYP), aged 0-19 who have a global learning disability and/or Autistic Spectrum Disorder, helping families to manage challenging behaviour and/or to support mental health needs. PALMS aims to keep children and young people with their families within Hertfordshire thereby improving outcomes for all family members. PALMS provides early intervention where necessary and intensive support to families reaching crisis with a step up and step down approach throughout their care journey. Interventions include workshops, groups, individual therapy, and therapeutic work with parents/carers/siblings.

We are seeking to appoint 2 motivated and forward thinking clinicians who can work flexibly and are committed to supporting Children and Young People (CYP) and their families across Hertfordshire.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Able to develop individual case formulations for all CYP integrating clinical assessment data with evidence based therapeutic models in order to plan interventions for CYP and collaboratively engage them in the process of therapy.
  • Able to plan and lead workshops and therapeutic groups with CYP and families.
  • Able to provide consultation, and where appropriate, supervision and training to other PALMS clinicians.
  • Able to maintain a high degree of professionalism when working in settings where there is a highly emotive atmosphere.
  • Flexible in their approach and have resilience under pressure
  • Able to work both in a team environment and autonomously

  • Regular appraisal, personal development planning and opportunities for continuing professional development. This includes specific support with regards to fulfilling the PALMS’ role such as co-facilitating workshops.

  • Opportunities to work closely with a multi-disciplinary team and learn from other evidence based frameworks and approaches.
  • Involvement in service development including undertaking clinical audits, project work and service forums.
  • Opportunities to provide clinical supervision and line management to other members of the PALMS team
  • Involvement in providing training.
  • 27 days annual leave, 29 if you have worked for the NHS for 5 years and 33 if you have worked for the NHS for 10 years, in addition to 8 days bank holidays.
  • Entitlement to the NHS pension scheme.

The posts are permanent and will be at either the QEII Hospital, Welwyn Garden City and Danestrete Child Development Centre, Stevenage. PALMS are open to flexible working and therefore part time / job share would be considered - working a minimum of 0.6 WTE.

A full valid driving license and access to a car to use regularly for business purposes is essential (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Please note there will be a group task at the beginning of the day which all candidates will need to attend. Successful candidates will then be invited to return for their individual interview later in the day. Timings will be allocated on the day.
