As a result of recent service development, we have opportunities for therapists wishing to develop their specialist skills in working with school aged children and in supporting schools to meet the needs of children with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs.

We have excellent relationships with our schools who report a high level of satisfaction with the service. In a recent survey, comments from schools have included "Really good service to schools" and “easiest health service to work with” and speak highly of the training we offer and the accessibility of link therapist support. Parents have also told us of the impact our support has had for their children and how much they value good communication with our therapists.

We have a combined vacancy of 1.3 WTE at Band 6 and seek full or part-time therapists who feel they could share our passion to deliver the best service possible within the available resources. We could potentially offer you a post as a link therapist for a number of locality schools or support you to combine this with developing your skills in working with young people who have social communication and/or social and emotional needs. The exact make-up of the post can be negotiated according to the successful candidate's clinical interest, experience and aspirations.

Our busy and happy team covers Chichester, Bognor and Midhurst, and is just over an hour west of Brighton. Asked recently what made them proud, responses from the team included: "The fact that we look at the child's needs holistically", " The support from each other " " Being very patient-focused " and "Delivering the service with a smile and getting to know the child's likes and interests to make therapy fun and motivating"

Our Speech and Language Therapy service is jointly funded by Health and Education and has a service specification that is broadly divided into Early Years and Schools, with our Complex Needs team supporting children in Child Development Centres, special schools, and a range of other settings. We use a universal, targeted and specialist approach focused on enabling parents, carers and setting staff to communicate as well as they possibly can with the children and young people in their care.

We strive to work as a team across the wider workforce in Early Years and Schools settings, keeping the children and families as our central focus at all times.

The successful candidate will receive a comprehensive induction which will lead into excellent regular supervision from Specialist Speech and Language Therapists (Band 7) as well as peer supervision. We have clinically-focused locality meetings every eight weeks, an annual Professional Study Day, an annual Allied Health Professions Celebration Day, clinical forums, a journal club, and ad hoc in-house training. This year we have secured Attention Autism Training for 25 staff and last year did the same with Nuffield Training. We also have equipment budgets which enable the service to continually improve resources for assessment and therapy.

The service has an electronic patient record system and benefits from fantastic administrative support. We are a well-established and friendly team forming part of a professionally lead countywide service and working within a Trust which positively values the unique contribution of allied health professionals . We look forward to hearing from you!
