Applications are invited for a Clinical Fellow in Cardiac Surgery to join our expanding and forward thinking team at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust comprises three acute teaching hospitals serving the population of Leicester, Leicestershire and the wider region.

The primary function of the post is to provide Cardiac Surgery services to patients in Leicester and the East Midlands region and beyond. The service is working towards being the East Midlands Aortic Dissection Centre and the post holder will be expected to contribute to, and progress, the excellent standards in clinical care, training and research that the service is recognised for.

As one of the largest and most technically advanced Cardiac Surgery units in the country, it provides tertiary level services for the East Midlands including, Leicester, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, South Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, West Cambridgeshire (Peterborough), Northants (mainly Kettering), and Burton. The population referral base is around 2 million for adult Cardiac Surgery and enjoys a prestigious position with excellent clinical outcomes.

We are seeking a colleague who has experience in Adult Cardiac Surgery, who will complement the existing service. Candidates should have at least 1 year experience at Registrar level or equivalent and will be expected to work on the Registrar on call rota (currently 1 in 6 with the possibly of moving to 1 in 8 as under review).

You must have the ability to work as part of a large team, with the expectation that changes to the job plan will occur depending on the service needs and as the department develops. This role is key to further developing the Adult Cardiac Surgery Service and its profile at both a regional and national level.
