An NHS staff bank is an entity managed by a trust, with temporary workers, able to take on shifts to meet fluctuating staffing needs caused by staff illness, or increased patient demand.

Due to the retirement of our current Temporary Staffing manager, we would like to invite you to apply for the role.

The post is initially offered as a fixed term post, with a possibility to extend beyond the initial 12 month period.

We would prefer that the Temporary Staffing Manager is a registered clinical professional (e.g. Nurse or AHP), as there will be a requirement to interview and assess these grades of staff.

They will lead the Temporary Staffing/Hospital Bank team and work in partnership with operational managers, professional and clinical leads, our recruitment and resourcing teams and external partners (such as Healthroster) to ensure that the temporary staffing services meet the operational needs of our organisation.

The role demands a high level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity. Great IT skills and an analytical, innovative approach are essential. Success in this role will require you to have excellent people skills, strong leadership and managerial experience as well as the ability to produce reports, analyse data, and identify trends and the confidence to action based on the results.

You must be able to lead the department to provide business focused solutions that enable the delivery of an efficient, cost effective service. You must have demonstrable experience using data and information to identify efficiency savings, and the ability to make these improvements real. Key to success will be ensuring effective processes and systems are embedded and in practice.

The role holder will also line-manage the temporary staff at the Trust, and will be responsible for undertaking appraisal and revalidation. You should be able to demonstrate experience and proficiency in this area, as well as understanding how best to deal with poor performance.

Previous experience of working in a temporary staffing environment, negotiating with agencies and knowledge of agency framework regulations would be a distinct advantage.

As the post is available as a fixed term, we would welcome and support a secondment from another NHS organisation (please note that this would require your current manager/organisation’s agreement).
