Consultant in Anaesthesia – Obstetric interest

Applications are invited for the NEW post(s) of Consultant Anaesthetist at the Royal Cornwall Hospital Truro. Details of other posts available are at the end of this advert

The Royal Cornwall Hospital is situated in the City of Truro. We have a broad range of elective services, with a diverse emergency workload, in arguably the best place to live and practice medicine in the UK.

The Hospital is a major District General Hospital, a major trauma unit, a vascular centre, with comprehensive cancer services, providing over 30000 anaesthetics per year, and over 4000 births, with over 750 beds. We have 27 operating theatres and anaesthesia delivery areas and 18 critical care beds. We operate to a budget of £430 million, with approximately 6000 staff.

We are looking for Consultants in Anaesthesia with a broad range of skills to become an active member of a flexible team of 50 consultants and 5 SAS anaesthetists at a particularly exciting time for anaesthetic expansion, peri-operative medicine, orthopaedic and major trauma development in Cornwall.

The Royal Cornwall Hospital is notable for its excellent national database surgical outcomes across several specialties; leaders in GI surgery and innovation in orthopaedic delivery, with outstanding interventional radiology. RADAR – a bespoke state of the art real time clinical and operational data analysis system underpins this success. Environmental Sustainability is core to our strategy, including novel volatile anaesthetic recycling.

Particular experience in pre-assessment and peri-operative medicine and expertise or desire to develop CPET and/or peri-operative echocardiography as well as orthopaedic and regional anaesthesia, and experience of major trauma care, would be most attractive. Obstetric experience at consultant level is also a separate post requirement. Wider skills in audit and governance, and management and leadership would be particularly desirable.
