This is a voluntary role

The overall aim of this role is to act as a befriender/support to patients, relatives and carers, and therefore complement and support the staff in a ward environment.

Volunteers will be based on a ward environment. Volunteers will work as part of a team and will be supported by the ward staff.

To treat all patients with dignity, spending time in general conversation and listening. Important to show empathy, assisting with social activities as directed by ward staff. To treat all patients like you would your own family.

Volunteers will need to undertake a corporate induction programme on commencement of their volunteering.

To be confident, enthusiastic, to display levels of empathy and understanding at all times when communicating with the patients. To be presentable, smart and you must always wear your identification badge - no jeans please!

We would like the volunteer ideally to commit to two to three hours per week for a minimum of one year.
