For over four decades Countess Mountbatten Hospice Charity have provided outstanding end of lifecare to its community and its services have made a huge impact on many families lives across Hampshire.

The journey towards end of life can be a complex one. Medical advances and changes in family lives mean that the care we provide to our patients and their families constantly evolves to meet the needs and expectations of our Community. Over the last year, Mountbatten Isle of Wight and Countess Mountbatten Hospice Southampton, have developed a unique partnership, with one senior team leading both organisations.

At Countess Mountbatten Hospice we pride ourselves on delivering the highest standard of care and support to patients and their families, and constantly strive to ensure we reach as many people as possible, whenever and wherever they may need us. The hospice serves a population of approximately 600,000 and covers Southampton, and parts of West Hampshire. We are a registered charity and company, with our community at the heart of our services.

Currently we have a 25 bedded In-Patient Unit (IPU), a large day, self-help and rehabilitation centre, a community nursing team, Psychosocial care & Bereavement service and an education team. However, our services and approach to care are being constantly developed and expanded to meet the growing demands of increasingly complex health issues and the needs of the community we serve.

Countess Mountbatten was opened in September 1977 and at the time it was the only the second NHS palliative care hospice in the country. In 2018 it was announced that Countess Mountbatten Hospice would lead a ground breaking partnership with Mountbatten Hospice on the Isle of Wight developing its services as an independence charity.

Today, Countess Mountbatten Hospice supports more than 3,000 patients and their families living with terminal illnesses every year. We are patient focussed and strive for outstanding service and ensure that our inpatient unit is always a calm and relaxing environment.

We are a friendly, enthusiastic and dynamic multidisciplinary team based in West End Southampton, Hampshire and deliver various modern palliative services, which include therapies, community nurse specialists and a bereavement and psychology service.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who would like to be part of our journey and join an established consultant team at Countess Mountbatten Hospice based within our inpatient unit and our community team. Although the post is based at Countess Mountbatten Hospice, the contract will be held by University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

This exciting opportunity will suit a doctor who has experience in Palliative Medicine and interested in developing services and new models of care.

Applicants should have;

  • Full GMC Registration
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • CCT in Palliative Medicine or appropriate qualifications and experience to allow entry on to the Specialist Register
