Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist – Full-time

We are seeking to recruit a full-time Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to our Swansea Bay CAMHS team (based in Neath Port Talbot Hospital).

The successful candidate will join an established team of Child Psychiatrists in the Swansea Bay locality of the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (UHB) CAMHS Provider Network, which provides CAMH Services across two Health Board areas.

This is an exciting time for CAMHS in Wales with the injection of new Welsh Government funding for the development of services including Eating Disorder services, Psychological therapies, and a significant focus on Prevention and Early Intervention through the Whole School Approach and expansion of Primary Mental Health services (P-CAMHS). This builds on existing developments over the last few years, including the establishment of a CAMHS Crisis team, First Episode Psychosis team and Neurodevelopmental Disorders service. The service also benefits from its well-established Community Intensive Therapy Team and from close links with Regional services including the Adolescent In-patient Unit (in Bridgend), Eating Disorders Outreach Service and Tier 4 Forensic team (FACTS).

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team including Consultant Child Psychiatry colleagues, Specialty Doctor, CAMHS Nurses, Practitioner Psychologists, Systemic/Family Therapists and Therapists in various other modalities including CBT & Play therapy, to provide an out-patient CAMH service in the Swansea Bay area. You will have the opportunity to meet regularly with colleagues across the Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB CAMHS Network for CPD activities and peer supervision.

Port Talbot is superbly located in central South Wales, just 10 minutes’ drive from the city of Swansea and 45 minutes from the capital city of Cardiff, both hosting various sporting, recreational and cultural activities, and within close proximity of the Brecon Beacons, Gower peninsula and Glamorgan Heritage coastline, providing opportunities for an excellent work life balance. There are very good transport links via the M4 and rail network.

On call: Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Rota across the Cwm Taf CAMHS Network of approximately 1:18.

Total of up to 10 Programmed Activities: CAMHS community team.
