Job Reference: 334-CRY-2168424-TRAC

Employer:
South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust
Department:
Croydon Directorate
Location:
HMP Wandsworth, Heathfield Road, Wandsworth, London
Salary:
£27,936 - £34,628 per annum inc

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust has a rich history, well-established community links and an international reputation. We deliver specialist services in the London boroughs of Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark, Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich.

We are committed to providing high quality and specialist care to our service users and we are recognised for the care and treatment we provide. The Care Quality Commission already rates our services as ‘good’.

Our Values

We take pride in providing specialist care to our service users, where our Trust values and our promise to be caring, kind, polite, prompt, honest, listen and do what I say I’m going to do, is at the heart of everything we do. When you join us, you’ll be part of something special.

We are looking for enthusiastic Registered Mental Nurses to work with the Mental Health Inpatient Team which is located within HMP Wandsworth. Working in a prison is a fast-paced and diverse role which differs from working on mental health wards due to the prison setting. Candidates interested in working in forensics will find it highly stimulating and will be given opportunities to develop within the forensic specialism.

You will be a mental health nurse with a real interest in forensic mental health. Our focus is to identify staff with a strong belief in recovery and who are comfortable working closely with forensic prisoners. This type of setting will provide challenges and it is important that you have good understanding of caring for patients with acute mental health backgrounds. You will be approachable, energetic and resilient.

We offer you a comprehensive induction, regular clinical and managerial supervision as well as promoting continuous professional development to provide you with opportunities to progress and ensure that best practice is delivered in the prison.

The Addison Unit is a 12 bedded mental health unit run by the prison service in which SLaM deliver Mental Health provision. The Mental Health Team provides assessment and treatment to those prisoners with a range of acute mental health needs in order to support them to recover and move back to the mainstream prison environment or be transferred out to hospital to receive further treatment under the Mental Health Act. The unit has a Multi-Professional Team of medical, nursing and Psychology staff and operates a 24/7 nursing shift pattern in addition to support from prison officers who manage the operational environment, including the opening of cell doors.

Please note that prison vetting will need to be undertaken for this role. These posts receive inner London weighting.

If successful at shortlisting stage you will be invited to an assessment.
