Applications are sought from Biomedical Scientists, who have current HCPC registration, and who have completed the IBMS Specialist portfolio, or have equivalent experience.

The Haematology & Blood Transfusion Departments at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital provides a comprehensive service to the Bailiwick of Guernsey which includes the islands of Alderney, Sark and Herm. The Haematology Department processes approximately 56,000 full blood counts and 25,000 coagulation screens per annum. In addition the Haematology Department provides a Clinical outpatients service in partnership with the University Hospital Birmingham Trust.

Due to Guernsey’s unique location the Blood Transfusion department is integrated with the Guernsey Blood donor service. The department process’s and issues approximately 1900 red cell and platelet donations per annum as well as various other blood products.

Working as part of a small team you will contribute to the daily running and development of the department. The role requires a good level of theoretical and practical knowledge and you will be required to contribute to the training and supervision of junior scientific, support and administrative staff. The role also gives an opportunity to develop professional expertise in a unique environment.

The successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills be highly motivated and strong team player who is fully committed to patient care. The post requires full participation in the out of hours’ general multidiscipline and the blood transfusion rota’s for which full training is given.

We offer a full relocation package which includes interview and relocation travel, this is in addition to our competitive pay and annual bonus. Subsidised accommodation is available for those travelling to the island alone, and an 8 year employment permit for those wishing to bring a partner or family. After the initial 8 year permit, you may apply to become a permanent resident in Guernsey.

Appointment to this role will be subject to the following pre-employment checks which will be completed following an offer of employment:

  • Confirmation of required qualifications / registrations

Should the successful applicant not meet the requirements sufficiently they may be appointed at a lower grade than stated. The successful applicant would then have the opportunity to progress to the grade advertised once the necessary skills and knowledge have been developed and the postholder has demonstrated the ability to undertake the duties at the higher level.
