A fantastic career opportunity has arisen for a Substantive Consultant Ophthalmologist to join our dedicated and professional multi-discipline ophthalmic team.

Applicants will be encouraged to develop their subspecialty expertise and to support the development of a leading ophthalmic consultant team. The Ophthalmology service offers general ophthalmic care and a high volume cataract service as well as medical and surgical retina, oculoplastic surgery, glaucoma care, corneal surgery and paediatric and strabismus surgery.

You will be a highly valued member of the team bringing your expertise and skills to a range of ophthalmic surgical procedures and especially to cataract surgery. Sub-speciality interests in medical retina or high volume cataract surgery would be particularly welcomed, alongside previous management experience.

This post would be ideal for a candidate looking for a change, a challenge and to champion the service through future leadership and management opportunities.

The health economy in West, North and East Cumbria is currently undergoing major reconfiguration making this an exciting time to join us and help us fashion the delivery of ophthalmic care of the future. At the forefront of delivering high quality healthcare within the local communities our friendly department has an excellent track record in patient experience and clinical success.

This is a 10 PA appointment with a general ophthalmic emergency on-call commitment. The successful applicant will work across the main sites of the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, and West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven.

You need to be on the GMC specialist register or eligible to entry within 6 months.
