An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Mental Health Triage Hub currently working within the Derbyshire Police Headquarters at Ripley.

The service originates from the Derbyshire Street Triage service and a 111 service where mental health nurses linked with the 111 out of hours service. Following the success of these service developments, and The Crisis Care Concordat action plans for Derbyshire, these services have now joined together to form the Mental Health Triage Hub.

Based in Ripley Police Headquarters we are a small team comprising Band 7 Team Leader and Band 6 Nurses. We work with the police, EMAS, 111, Out of Hours GP service and Social Care to provide a triage service to those individuals who come into contact with the emergency service whilst presenting with a mental health crisis. Our aim is to ensure that the patient receives the right care at the right time by the right person.

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic mental health nurse who is a highly motivated, dynamic individual who has the ability to provide a quality service under pressure, often on their own and with a specific regard to the interface between the criminal justice system, police and all our partners, including EMAS, DHU/111 and Social Care.

DHCFT have recently been successful in receiving significant transformation monies that will enhance the service and enable the service to expand to a 24 hour response offer. The successful candidates will be expected to be available for a 7-day-a-week rota working over 24 hours with three different shift patterns (earlys, lates, and nights) Current hours of work are unsocial 4pm until midnight, 5 days a week. We also work 9 am till midnight weekends and Bank Holidays. We are currently reviewing the service in line with the transformational monies to expand the working hours within the beginning of 2020. You will be based within the Police Communications Control Room Building at Police Headquarters in Ripley and may possibly be required to travel around Derbyshire covering a large geographical area and therefore access to your own means of transport is required. You will also need to go through a vetting process, in addition to the usual DBS process, which enables access to the police headquarters.

You will be expected to offer expedient and sound information to professionals referring into the service. You will need triage skills/ assessment skills as you will be communicating and providing interventions to individuals who might otherwise have been transferred to ED or detained on a Section 136 or detained under the MHA.

This is an exciting and challenging time for the Mental Health Triage Hub moving forwards with the expansion of the service with our Partner Agencies in Derbyshire to provide appropriate/ proportionate alternatives to their mental health needs when coming into contact with emergency services.

You will ensure the provision of an effective service to meet legislative, policy and contractual requirements within both the Trust and Police services.

Post is advertised as full time - 37.5 hours but will consider part time.
