Specialty Doctor

Croydon Adult & Behavioural and Developmental Psychiatry Directorate, Forensic Mental Health

There is an opportunity for a full-time Specialty Doctor post in forensic medium secure services starting February 2020.

The post covers one 16 bedded medium secure ward (Effra Ward) based in River House on the Bethlem Royal Hospital site. The job plan includes 10 PAs including one session for CPD activities. Depending on the candidate, there may be an opportunity to pursue additional research activities or enrol in an MSc programme. There is an active teaching programme conducted for the Forensic Division at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience on Friday mornings to which the successful applicant would be encouraged to attend. In addition, there are opportunities to teach psychiatrists-in-training and medical students.

Effra ward is a sub-acute rehabilitation-focused ward which is served with a well resourced multidisciplinary team including social worker, psychologist, OT and consultant. The ward caters for male patients with referrals taken from more acute wards within the medium secure service, private providers, and prison and from high secure hospitals.

Experience in adult psychiatry is essential and experience in forensic psychiatry preferred.
