The Childrens Medical Day Care Unit (CDCU) is a nurse led unit providing care to children who require diagnostic tests or ongoing treatment for chronic illness.

The nurses on CDCU are highly skilled, allowing many aspects of the service to be nurse led. All the nurses are skilled in phlebotomy and cannulation and have specialist knowledge and experience to support the diverse care requirements of this patient group.

Many children attend Day Care on a regular basis enabling you to develop ongoing therapeutic relationships with these families. Day Care is a small friendly unit providing many nurse led initiatives, family support and innovative nursing care.

Due to an exciting development, we are looking for a Band 5 Health Play Specialist to join our team in supporting children through their hospital journey.

The successful band 5 applicant will need to have the ability to implement developmental, therapeutic and specialised play to children and young people from birth to 16 years in an environment that changes constantly. You will also have experience in preparation, distraction and post procedural play techniques for a wide range of procedures and conditions. You must hold the Health Play Specialist qualification (Registered practitioner for a minimum of 1 year) and relevant level 3 child care qualification (NNEB, Btec diploma in nursery nursing, NVQ/CACHE in child care or a degree in child care) and have broad experience of working in a health care setting.

The role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to prioritise workloads, use your own initiative and be flexible and adaptable to the needs of the service. You will need to be able to work independently and as part of a large multi-disciplinary team.

The full time posts will consist of core shifts between 07.30-19.00 hours, you may also be required to work weekends and bank holidays
