We are looking for a Locum Consultant to join colleagues in a very dynamic and forward looking General Adult Psychiatry Service, Morlais Ward, Carmarthen.

Office accommodation, secretarial support and full IT facilities including access to intranet and internet will be provided.

General Adult Psychiatry at Carmarthen Community Mental Health Team in Wellfield Resource centre , Carmarthen and Towy Valley Community Mental Health Team based in Llandovery Cottage Hospital, Llandovery.

The post holder will develop and deliver all aspects of psychiatric care to the population of Carmarthenshire in particular the population of Carmarthen and Towy Valley CMHTs which includes 8 GP practices covering a population of approximately 58000. The post holder has the support of experienced CMHT staff and a Specialty doctor 0.4 WTE in Carmarthen. They also may have a GP trainee/CT1 trainee working with them. There is a well-established system of link working with GP surgeries by Primary and Secondary Mental Health Services which allows for good communication with GP Colleagues, signposting to appropriate services and decreased number of inappropriate referrals to Secondary services.

Hywel Dda Health Board is one of seven acute Health Boards in Wales.

This post comes during a period of Health Board-wide service reviews, including a comprehensive reconfiguration of services for Mental Health in West Wales. The potential for Health Board-wide developments and a closer liaison with primary care and social services is substantial and exciting. A major expansion in undergraduate medical student teaching is planned.

Hywel Dda University Health Board provides services to the 3 counties of Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire which together cover a quarter of Wales. It is predominantly rural in nature with areas of outstanding beauty attracting National Park status. Llanelli on the south coast is the only major industrial town in the area. Aberystwyth, Lampeter and Carmarthen are University towns. Cardiff, the capital of Wales is approximately 125 miles away while Swansea is about 65 mile away from Aberystwyth.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is one of seven acute Health Boards in Wales serving a population of circa 389,000 with over 9,500 staff. It is an integrated health body, ensuring the delivery of high quality primary, community, mental health and secondary care services, and it is responsible for the health and wellbeing of people across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.
