This is a great and exciting milestone which will help us to maintain quality and safety for people in Swindon and the surrounding areas over the coming years.


Clinical Teaching Fellow(s)-Office Based

 

We would like to appoint 16 Clinical Teaching Fellows (CTF)-office based for the Academic Year beginning August 2020. These are 1-year posts in the first instance, but they can be extended for a further 12 months by mutual agreement.

 

These posts are aimed at post foundation year doctors who wish to spend time working in a medical educational role at The Academy in Swindon, working with medical students from The Universities of Bristol (UoB), Oxford (UoO) & Kings College Hospital, London (KCH). The posts are suitable for doctors who wish to take time out before starting higher medical training or doctors who want to take a year out of a training programme (subject to agreement by the relevant training programme director) or for doctors interested in an academic career who wish to pursue a higher degree such as an MSc or doctorate (MD).

 

All appointee’s will be fully funded to undertake a formal educational qualification such as The Teaching & Learning for Health Professionals (TLHP) certificate or a master’s programme over 2 years in any academic area related to medicine. All appointees will spend 80% of their time working on the UG programme and 20% of their time undertaking supernumerary clinical work. The rotations will be agreed at interview.

 

The CTF’s will also be offered the opportunity & funding to take part in a range of educational programmes such as:

 

  1. Dept post graduate teaching in their chosen speciality while they prepare for part II MRCP, MRCS or Primary Care exams.
  2. Self-Selected Components in Uganda (Tropical Medicine) and the French Alps (Wilderness & Expedition Medicine, Sports Medicine) & Malta (Dive Medicine) (see appendix 2 of the job description).
  3. Medical Education & Widening Participation programmes
  4. Simulation training and leadership in our state-of-the-art simulation suite.

Current employees should be aware that this position is advertised as a GWH position and appointment ends any TUPE protection.

All candidates are required to pay for their own DBS check where applicable. Standard DBS check costs £26 and will be recovered from your first pay; Enhanced DBS check costs £44 and will be split and recovered over the first 2 pay.

Bank posts requiring a DBS check; payment must be made prior to commencing.

Apprentices are exempt from payment.
