Department of Infectious Diseases

 

Band 6 Specialist Nurse Infectious Diseases 12 month Fixed Term Contract

 

 

Applications are invited for the above post within the Infectious Diseases department of the Respiratory Division. The role is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a diverse service. The successful candidate will work alongside the 5 other specialist nurses in the delivery of the different aspects of the service detailed below.

 

Within Infectious Diseases there is a national service for patients with Chronic Pulmonary Aspergillosis, Allergic Aspergillosis and other fungal infections. Specific duties will include supporting patients in clinics and on the wards, advising patients and relatives on the telephone, contributing to home care delivery of antifungals including preparation of written advice materials for patients and contributing to the monthly patient meetings and weekly MDTs.

 

There is a service to assess and treat patients with chronic hepatitis B & C infection. This service is currently developing outreach services in the community. Duties include direct contact with patients in clinic, advising and supporting patients and carers over the telephone, liaising with other clinicians and referrers both within the Trust and in the community and to attend the educational events as required.

 

Also there is a service for Tuberculosis where the clinicians have direct contact with patients in clinic, the patients are supported over the telephone and when needed are visited at home.

 

The team of Infectious diseases specialist nurses cover several areas of infectious diseases and it is expected that the specialist nurses are able to cross-cover services during periods of leave.
