Applications are invited for a full time (10PA’s) Consultant Ophthalmologist for the Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to compliment the existing Consultants special interests. Special consideration will be given to candidates with an interest in Emergency Eye Care and General Ophthalmology. There is considerable scope for flexibility in providing a job plan that will suit the interests of the successful applicant. Candidates who would prefer a medical ophthalmology post will also be considered. The appointee to this post will join 7 other Consultant Ophthalmologists in our well established team.

The Department of Ophthalmology operates from the new purpose built Chesterfield Eye Centre opened in June 2012 with Ultra-modern facilities. The Eye centre is a well-equipped outpatient department where it runs general ophthalmology and emergency clinics, as well as specialist clinics including medical retina, oculo-plastic, cornea and anterior segment, paediatric ophthalmology and glaucoma. The North Derbyshire DRS service is also provided from this site.

The majority of ophthalmic surgery is performed on a day case basis from a day case facility but the department also has access to in-patient beds which have a fully equipped examination room close by.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital is situated on a green field site two miles east of the centre of Chesterfield and comprises approximately of 630 beds. It provides almost all of the acute in-patient care for Chesterfield and the surrounding rural area of North Derbyshire, serving a population of approximately 350,000 people. The hospital has an excellent friendly atmosphere making it popular with junior medical staff and is located close to the Peak District National Park where the local scenery and opportunities for outdoor activities are exceptional.

The ophthalmology department is progressive and would be supportive of proposals to expand the scope of facilities currently available.
