We have long term placement opportunity available for Band 8 Specialist Pharmacist within Surgery & Nutrition at both The John Radcliffe Hospital & Churchill Hospital in Oxford. specifically providing the following:

  • To support and deputise for the Consultant Pharmacist Nutrition & Intestinal Failure/Divisional Pharmacist Team Leader in the provision of a safe, effective and efficient clinical pharmacy service to the surgical directorate and parenteral nutrition services, in accordance with local and national standards and strategy.
  • To have delegated responsibility for specific aspects of the service as agreed with the Consultant Pharmacist Nutrition & Intestinal Failure/Divisional Pharmacist Team Leader and Pharmacy Clinical Services Manager. This will include roles common to all Directorate Pharmacist Team Managers, eg antimicrobial and/or wound care link, and others specific to the Directorate as needed..
  • To direct members of the team in an objective way, including audits.
  • To provide a clinical pharmacy service to the surgical directorate and specialist input into the inpatient and outpatient parenteral nutrition service.
  • To promote and ensure the safe and effective use of medicines within the Directorates to achieve high standards of medicines related aspects of patient care.
  • To encourage the cost-effective use of medicines and to improve the quality of pharmaceutical care for patients.
  • To provide specialised professional and technical education to enable the clinical units to meet high standards of patient care and safety.
  • To be an active member of the pharmacy department and in the specialist area/Directorate team, and to ensure continuous two-way exchange of information to maintain high standards of medicines use within the Trust.

The John Radcliffe Hospital is situated in Headington, about 3 miles east of Oxford City Centre.

Skills/Responsibilities:

To apply for this post, you will:

  • Be Qualified to master’s degree level (4 year MPharm) or equivalent
  • Be a Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Have Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy, or equivalent experience
  • Have Experience of working as a clinical pharmacist at a high level in a variety of clinical areas
  • Have Experience of prescribing/recommending adjustments to TPN
  • Have Experience of managing a team
  • Have UK Hospital experience
  • Possess Good time management - Able to prioritise appropriately and effectively.
  • Be Enthusiastic and self-motivated and be able to demonstrate flexibility in working practices.
  • Be capable of being assertive and working under pressure
