The post is suited for those who seek exposure to complex Spine Surgery as well as those aiming to achieve a more senior level experience with an interest in a career in Complex Spine Surgery.

The Spinal Surgery Clinical department within the Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences (MCCN) is based at Salford Royal Foundation Trust. Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust is the largest Spinal Centre in the UK and one of the largest in Europe creating an exciting opportunity to work within. There are 12 dedicated Spinal Consultants and 1 Spinal Specialty Doctor within the department with 4 of the Spinal surgeons providing paediatric Spinal services at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. There is an integrated approach to spinal services in collaboration with the 22 Consultant Neurosurgeons along with 20 Neurosurgical and 8 Spinal middle grades.

Candidates work in firms with junior support. The firm structure is designed to provide exposure to all aspects of Spinal surgery including complex deformity cases and tumours both at Salford Royal and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

You will be invited to attend:

• Daily Spine Urgency/Trauma meeting
• Weekly x-ray meetings
• Opportunity to participate in ongoing departmental research and audit presentations
• Excellent training experience, supervision and appraisal framework
• Access to clinical governance meetings

The clinical service is managed through a Directorate structure and the post holder will be expected to make a clear contribution to its smooth running and thereby develop his/her experience in the field of spinal surgery.

Posts are tailored to the individual needs and run a duration of 6 to 12 months based on individual candidate requirements.

You will have full registration with the GMC and hospital experience to work at ST3 level or higher. These are non-training post at the equivalent of SpR grade though full training support is provided. You are expected to have an interest in orthopaedic spinal surgery.
