Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)

Psychiatric Liaison Practitioner Band 7 - Full time on a 7 day rota pattern.

Base: County wide provision across 2 acute hospitals in Taunton and Yeovil.


An exciting opportunity to be involved in delivering enhanced high quality care to young people.

Following increased investment from Somerset CCG, SOMPAR is delighted to launch a 7 day a week psychiatric liaison service. The current provision is Mon – Friday 9 am -8 pm. We are seeking to extend this to 10 am – 6 pm on Saturday and Sundays as well, on a rotational basis.

The team will be based across the 2 acute hospitals in Somerset (Taunton and Yeovil) offering assessment following presentation of any self harm or suicidal ideation of a young person ( under 18 ) as per our protocol. We also offer a 7 day follow up and liaison with other services as identified as part of the assessment .

We work closely with our colleagues in social care and paediatrics, adhering to joint protocols of assessment and information sharing to offer high quality, timely response to young people who present via A+E for mental/emotional well being needs. Both of the acute paediatric wards have ‘mental health link nurses’ who work closely with the psychiatric liaison team.

The psychiatric liaison team has a full time Psychiatrist as clinical lead and the management is overseen by the Operational manager for the CAMHS Enhanced Outreach team. The outreach team are a community based crisis and home treatment service, also working 7 days a week.

As part of a continuing development process the team are looking to recruit registered practitioners with a background in a mental health setting, to add to the expertise of the team. The team will provide a seven day a week service, operating on a shift basis. Additional support for the team out of hours is provided by the Enhanced outreach team, the on-call Consultant and Manager and close links are in place and will be reinforced with the district general hospitals.
