Staff Nurse – Band 5 Emergency Department

Full and part-time hours are available

Due to successful promotions within the emergency Department we now have the opportunity to recruit more registered nurses to join our innovative Emergency Department nursing team. We are constantly review roles and clinical scope with the emergency care environment, and are just about to launch “the Emergency Department Big Room”, which is a quality improvement initiative following the Sheffield FLOW methodology so that all staff can be actively involved in quality improvements.

We recognise that nurses are seeking a career pathway and development opportunities. Staff are supported by a new Clinical Practice Facilitator and are part of a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse development and appraisal group. We are enhancing our orientation and education programme to ensure that our staff received not only the extended clinical skills and knowledge that they require but also to ensure that have the personal support to work in a challenging clinical environment.

We have a very proactive education program, within the Emergency Department to include enhanced clinical skills such as suturing, x-ray ordering, and TAT (treat at triage). Staff are supported and encouraged to develop the many skills and knowledge required to look after our diverse patient group. Staff are also encouraged to be part of the many Quality Improvement projects that wefacilitate in-house with support from the Quality Improvement Centre.

You will need to have a minimum of 1 years post registration experience and be able to evidence your own professional development.

The Emergency Department covers a catchment area of approximately 500,000 people and last year had approximately 72,000 attendances. We are continuously striving to provide high quality patient care and believe in the fact that all patients should receive the right care by the right person with the right skills the first time. This is evidenced by our patient feedback. We have a strong commitment to developing our staff with our daily teaching programme and senior nurse mentorship.
