By spending some time chatting with patients, supporting with administrative tasks, helping keep our gardens great or lending a hand with our training courses you’ll be making an invaluable contribution to our work if you choose to volunteer with us. In return, you gain work experience and confidence by learning new skills, meeting new people and being part of a team.

We offer a variety of flexible volunteering roles across Plymouth, South Hams and West Devon. Due to the nature of our work, volunteers undergo certain recruitment checks; this may include having a DBS check depending on the role, providing two references and undergoing an occupational health screen. We will provide you with the necessary support to ensure that this process is as smooth as possible.

We are looking for Art and Music Therapy Volunteers to assist on our Cotehele Unit.

Cotehele Unit offers inpatient care for people, mainly over the age of 65, who have functional mental health issues and are experiencing the worst phase of their illness. Examples of functional mental health issues could include depression, schizophrenia, mild cognitive impairment, mood disorders or anxiety.

We provide a safe environment where people are respected and included in decisions about their mental health care. Our multi-disciplinary team offer daily support and therapeutic activities aimed at boosting people’s independence and self-esteem ahead of their return to the community.

We want people to leave the Cotehele Unit feeling positive and supported, which is why we work with a range of agencies in the wider community who can continue their care.

  • Co-facilitate Music Therapy Group at Cotehele Unit.
  • Help to plan session content and prepare the group space.
  • Assisting with the therapy group, including dealing with art materials, art work and music equipment.
  • Help with the practicalities of running a therapeutic group including understanding the role of confidentiality and privacy.

To assist in providing feedback to the therapist about the sessions.
