The Northern Care Alliance NHS Group (NCA) unites five local hospitals to deliver high quality care across the North East of Greater Manchester.

Locum Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon (Major Trauma)

Opportunity for a surgeon with skills in major trauma. 

  • The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate post CCT fellowship experience in Trauma.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to organise their own workload
  • Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
  • Contributing to undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing medical and multi professional education activity including teaching as necessary.
  • Participation in clinical audit.
  • Conducting appropriate duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
  • Multidisciplinary teamwork is envisaged as a key component of the working of this Trust and will involve Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) discussion with other colleagues.
  • Development of special interests that fit in with the Directorate needs and the strategic direction of the Trust.
  • Undertaking ward rounds as appropriate.
  • Providing evidence-based care for patients in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to engage in the development of the Northern Care Alliance Clinical Reliability Group for Orthopaedics.


This role provides candidates with an opportunity to work in one of the largest Arthroplasty Units in the North West.

There is a very active Education Centre across the trust and a wide range of facilities are available including intranet and internet links. Whilst the library stocks a concise selection of journals, other papers and articles can be quickly obtained from elsewhere. The department also has a comprehensive library, which is regularly updated and added to from departmental funds.

There are regional research monies available, for which all staff are eligible to apply.

The Department offers many exciting opportunities in the form of Lead Roles within the Department. The Lead roles are required to be on site and accommodated within the Monday to Friday job plan timetable.
