Fixed term Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology

This is a four month fixed term post available from February 2020

The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is continuing to invest in the expansion of our Department of Ophthalmology.

Applications are invited for the post of fixed term Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology. This is a6 monthterm however after this period the post will be assessed with a view to extending or substantiate.

The Department of Ophthalmology serves a population of 400,000 and offers a comprehensive range of routine and specialist ophthalmic services and treatments. Sub specialty services include Paediatrics and Strabismus, Medical Retina, Surgical Retina, Cornea and anterior segment, Oculo-plastics and Glaucoma. The clinical team comprises of 8 Consultant Surgeons, 4 Specialty Doctors and 2 trainees.

Housed in a purpose built eye clinic within a PFI build hospital, the department has invested in technology with replacement and additional equipment recently.

Applicants must have at least 3 years’ experience related to this specialty. FRCO phth or equivalent is desirable but not essential.

The post is a full-time appointment, consisting of 10 PAs consisting of casualty clinics, sub-specialty clinics, Laser and Phaco surgery. The post would be expected to take part in the on-call rota for the department based on a 1:6 Frequency.

The hospital is excellently placed geographically, being near junction 15 on the M4, 65 miles from London and 35 miles from Bristol. It is in the midst of beautiful countryside sitting at the foot of the Marlborough Downs and just south of the Cotswold.

Current employees should be aware that this position is advertised as a GWH position and appointment ends any TUPE protection.

All candidates are required to pay for their own DBS check where applicable. Standard DBS check costs £26 and will be recovered from your first pay; Enhanced DBS check costs £44 and will be split and recovered over the first 2 pay.

Bank posts requiring a DBS check; payment must be made prior to commencing.

Apprentices are exempt from payment.
