Consultant Upper GI Surgeon – Full time

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a Consultant Upper GI Surgeon to join our colorectal and general surgical team in Salisbury.

The General Surgery Department is an ambitious, cohesive and forward looking unit, with a strong track record of leading innovation and quality improvement, and an excellent reputation for surgical training. There is a degree of subspecialisation within the department and we are looking for a candidate who wishes to develop this further. The appointee will be competent in laparoscopic hernia repair; antireflux surgery with an interest in expanding the pH manometry service; all areas of cholelithiasis, including acute gallbladder surgery, laparoscopic bile duct exploration. Ideally the appointee would either already be competent in ERCP or will be willing to undertake the necessary training to participate in running the ERCP service. The successful candidate will participate in the 1:8 general surgical on call service as well as being an integral member of the multidisciplinary team.

Salisbury District Hospital is a 450 bedded district general hospital located in the South of Wiltshire. It provides excellent general hospital services to a rural population of approximately 225,000 who live in the counties of Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire; plastic surgery, burns and genetics services for the South West, and spinal rehabilitation services for the whole of the south of England. Across a number of specialties we have excellent partnership arrangements with neighbouring Trusts in Bournemouth and Southampton.

The hospital is located in a lovely rural setting on the outskirts of Salisbury with stunning views of the countryside. There are excellent transport links to London, the neighbouring cities of Southampton and Bournemouth, and the West Country.
