Queen Alexandra Hospital started life more than a century ago as a military hospital. Today it is one of the largest, most modern hospitals on the south coast, with 1,200 beds housed in light, bright, infection resistant, en-suite wards.

With a turnover of close to £600m, we provide comprehensive secondary care and specialist services to a local population of 675,000 people across South East Hampshire. We also offer some tertiary services to a wider catchment in excess of two million people. The Trust employs over 7,300 staff and is the largest employer in Portsmouth.

Our Trust Vision is Working Together to drive excellence in care for our patients and communities.

Not all heroes wear capes, just ask our paediatric emergency department nurses.

With compassion, determination and enthusiasm at their cores, our team are delivering exceptional care to the children from our community and we are looking for more like minded nurses to join us.

We are proud of our team, and in cultivating a family-like supportive environment. We understand the importance of nurturing our nurses to be the best they can be, and we know how essential it is to provide learning and development opportunities. Education is our focus, it is the basis of all our improvement, and we promise to support you in whatever career path you choose.

So to reward you for your hard work and commitment, we will reward you with:

  • Full access to our 7 in house study days, run and taught by our experienced Nurses and Clinicians within our own department to help you progress in your career. You will learn everything from Minor Skills to advanced Trauma.
  • Supportive induction and supernumerary shifts, tailored to your needs and experience.
  • Many opportunities for education and courses to build your current skills including, simulation and team building courses
  • We will also support your professional development including leadership and management courses, with supportive mentoring
  • Staff benefits which include childcare vouchers, on-site gym / swimming pool, cycle to work scheme, access to our Beach Hut, accommodation (subject to availability) and many, many more!

As a department, we know how important the development of a high quality healthcare system is to our patients and wider communities and we have a clear vision of how we can deliver on this in the future. That is why we are currently under way with an exciting new project of improving the Emergency Department to become an emergency floor. Over the next 3 years, we will be improving the emergency care Floor to make it more efficient and effective for you and our patients. The “Emergency Floor” is a single point of access for urgent and emergency attendances – although in its infancy stage in terms of planning, we are excited to see the development of these plans.
