HMYOI Wetherby is the largest secure provision in the country for young males aged between15-19. As part of the service there are two units that provide enhanced provisions for children identified with more complex and challenging needs.

As part of the Children and Young People’s transformation Programme, we are currently in the process of commencing implementation of the secure stairs framework at Adel Beck and Wetherby YOI. This service development will see the introduction of a developmentally and trauma informed mental health service model.

Our CAMHS team at Wetherby Young Offenders Institution delivers a wide range of therapeutic activities in an on-site dedicated therapy Centre to address the occupational needs of the young people using our service. We use meaningful activities such as sports, IT, arts and crafts, music and gardening so some experience of these kind of activities within a community setting would be an advantage.

As an occupational therapy assistant, you will work under the supervision of an occupational therapist (OT) and be an active member of the CAMHS team.It is important that you are able to motivate others; be able to work both independently as well as within group settings; and be able to demonstrate the ability to deal with people with challenging behavior. You will also need to be able to demonstrate that you have good numeracy and literacy skills including effective communication and IT skills.

Adel Beck is a 24 bedded Secure Children’s home and is the most technologically advanced home in the UK, it comprises of three 8-bedded units. The majority of these are commissioned by the Youth Justice Board for young people that have committed offences and the remainder is commissioned for young people secured on welfare grounds. Adel Beck has been judged as an outstanding children’s home by Ofsted.

In return we will provide you with lots of support and ensure you get the appropriate training in order for you to do the job well, including a full introduction to our service at Wetherby. As a valued team member, you will have the opportunity to introduce new ideas and innovations to the services as well as developing your own clinical skills alongside our experienced staff.
