999 Emergency Call Handler - Exeter

Job Reference: 202-A-19-11265

South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust
Trust HQ, Exeter
£18,813 pa plus unsocial enhancements*

We are looking for applicants that are dynamic, self motivated and creative to join the team at the West Clinical Hub in Exeter for course in January 2020.

Emergency Medical Dispatchers are the first point of contact to the ambulance service. Not every call you deal with will be a matter of life or death but the way you listen, interpret and deal with the calls will make a vital difference to the patients we serve every day.

Our ideal candidate will be someone who has a good all round standard of education that includes GCSE Grade C or above in English Language and fast accurate typing skills. Ideally you will have call centre or healthcare experience. Be familiar with working in an extremely demanding and fast paced environment, and above all be prepared to work shifts of which a good proportion will be weekends/nights and bank holidays to ensure the provision of 24/7 emergency 999 call answering to the public is maintained.

Emergency Medical Dispatchers are fully trained to give lifesaving advice to members of the public in the most critical situations, whilst also giving advice to patients that may require other treatment options other than an ambulance response. We know this role is suited to people who are calm under pressure, good at problem solving and have excellent interpersonal skills, with an empathetic nature.

This role offers a wide range of opportunities to kick start your career within our control room with the potential to progress into other roles within SWASFT.

If you think you meet this criteria then we want to hear from you.

*Unsocial will be paid under Section 2 of NHS Terms and Conditions. Please see attached A4C Handbook for more details.

Open Evening for this role will take place on 8 January 2020, you must attend this to be invited to the interview which are being held week commencing Monday 20 January 2020. The course will be starting on the 2 March 2020.
