Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust

The Northern Care Alliance NHS Group (NCA) unites five local hospitals to deliver high quality care across the North East of Greater Manchester.

The Alliance provides the benefits of scale but delivers this locally through multiple hospital sites which make up four new Care Organisations – Bury/Rochdale, North Manchester, Oldham and Salford. Using our mantra of ‘Saving lives, Improving lives’, the aim is for our Care Organisations to work closely with the communities they serve to deliver safe, high quality and reliable care, which are trusted, connected and pioneering.

Our Care Organisations are designed to operate within our group arrangement of hospitals, community and healthcare services which bring together over 17,000 staff and the services of The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. Our size and geographical reach means we are creating an environment each individual will be inspired and empowered by to be the best they can be. This is a really exciting time to join our new team.

A Consultant in Clinical Haematology is required to join the existing team of 7 Consultants at The Royal Oldham Hospital, located in Oldham.

Post holders may however, be required to work at any of the Trust sites if required.

The Clinical Haematology Department sits in the Medical Division, and serves a population of 800,000. The Trust provides a service from the Royal Oldham, North Manchester and Fairfield General Hospital sites with referrals received from the community teams, GPs and hospital consultant colleagues.

The multidisciplinary team provides a full range of Clinical Haematology services, both on an inpatient and outpatient basis.

The centralised laboratory service (CSL) at The Royal Oldham Hospital site provides services to the four main hospitals of The Pennine Acute Trust, namely The Royal Oldham Hospital, North Manchester General Hospital, Fairfield General Hospital and Rochdale Infirmary.

The department of clinical haematology provides the service based on a hub and spoke model. The purpose built Clinical Haematology Unit at The Royal Oldham Hospital was opened in 2010 and provides inpatient level 2B care in a 22 bedded unit. There is also an attached day case facility providing over 10000 episodes annually.

The Laboratory is housed in a modern purpose built facility providing a high standard of laboratory services to the Trust and general practitioners.

The haematology and blood transfusion laboratories hold full accreditation by CPA.
