CONSULTANT PAEDIATRICIAN

CROYDON UNIVERSITY HOSPITALCONSULTANT PAEDIATRICIAN10 Programmed Activities

 

Applications are invited for a full time (10PA) post of Consultant Paediatrician with training in paediatric emergency medicine (PEM) or High dependency care. This is a full time substantive post, 10PAs.

 

This is a new post. The acute Paediatric department totals 12 WTE consultants (this post will increase the number to 13). The successful candidate would be joining the acute Paediatric department which is currently undergoing a process of change and development.

We meet the London quality standards for Paediatric Care by delivering a sustainable consultant led service. The post holder will do consultant 'attending’ weeks in the Paediatric Emergency Department (PED) on a 1 week in 4 basis. Outpatient clinics will be part of the timetable during non-PED attending weeks. There would be a need to cover the paediatric ward and neonatal unit (Level 2) during on-call out of hours evening and weekends (1 in 13 with internal cover). In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.

The Paediatric Emergency Department (PED) area within CUH emergency department caters for approximately one third (approx. 25,000 children annually) of all attendances and due to the diverse population in the Croydon area we see a wide variety of acute pathology. A completely new Emergency Department (including PED) opened in December 2018. The new PED has state of the art facilities including two high specification resuscitation cubicles and one HDU cubicle.

Croydon University Hospital is a large District General Hospital with strong links to the local Teaching hospitals.
