Emergency Department

£79,860 - £107,668 per annum

We are excited to be offering a full time Consultant position working in our Emergency Department (ED) at Musgrove Park Hospital. Primarily we are looking a new, enthusiastic colleague who is able to expand our innovative team. Whether you are a new consultant with a special interest or more experienced and have a desire to take on a leadership role (eg Clinical Service Lead role with additional PA allocation) we may have the job for you. Our department, which has Trauma Unit status as part of the Severn Trauma Network, has been expanded and refurbished in recent years and has a high quality 4 bed resuscitation room, dedicated paediatric resuscitation area, gantry x-ray, and a 12 bed majors area. Our Integrated Front Door provides consisting of both Emergency and Urgent Care streams enables our patients to be cared for by either GPs, ENPs, physiotherapists or ED doctors, based on need. A new Acute Assessment Hub is being developed to bring the Surgical Assessment Unit to the acute floor alongside ED and the Ambulatory Care Unit.

Our ambitious and enthusiastic ED Consultant team includes some of the biggest influencers in emergency care in the UK and who are active within national roles including the National Advisor (A&E) NHS England. As part of this team who actively contribute to peer reviewed research publications and are involved in a number of ongoing projects, you will have plenty of room for developing your specialty interests. We are also the South West’s highest scored trust for training by the GMC National Training Survey, with our own onsite academy linked to the University of Bristol. We are confident we can offer you one of the best environments to develop your career, along with enhancing our patient care with the skills you bring.

In addition to this, you will get to experience life in the West Country.

Nestled in the heart of Somerset as the County town, Taunton has recently been named as one of the new ‘Garden Towns’. It has a diverse range of shopping and restaurants, hosts a number of arts and food festivals and is home to the county cricket ground regularly hosting international fixtures, including the recent Cricket World Cup. If you like the outdoors, nearby you will find national hotspots for cycling from gentle meanders through the Levels to challenging routes in the Quantock Hills or choose from over 1000 climbing routes at Cheddar Gorge. Straddled between areas of outstanding natural beauty and the idyllic rolling hills of Exmoor, there is plenty to keep you occupied.

Somerset offers some of the best schools in the country. Ranging from Public institutions such as Millfield, Queen’s College, Taunton School, King’s College, Wellington School and Blundell’s just across the border in Devon, to award winning state schools such as the Richard Huish College which has been ranked in the top 10 of A-level providers nationally for the last eight years, through to secondary schools ranking in the top 5% nationally such as The Castle school.

With great educational opportunities, an abundance of open country side, cultural festivals and local traditions, we think there is nowhere better. Throw in a cost of living that will see you afford a higher quality of life, and significantly lower than the national average crime rate, we like to think we can offer you the best of both worlds, professionally, and personally.
