THIS POST IS FXED TERM FOR 12 MONTHS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE SERVICE.

The Surgical Materials Testing Laboratory (SMTL) are recruiting a

scientist to work on a one year fixed term contract from the Princess of Wales site in Bridgend, reporting to the Biological Technical Manager.

 

The successful applicant will be investigating various technologies available for the detection of residual proteins on washed surgical instruments. The research programme will involve determining and running a research programme of comparative testing of the technologies under laboratory conditions. They will be expected to work closely with SMTL’s other departments and sterile service departments within the Welsh NHS.

 

The applicant should demonstrate good attention to detail, excellent planning and organisation skills, and an ability to assess scientific literature and manufacturers specifications with regards to analytical performance of the candidate methods. The requirement to accurately follow written test methods, and the ability to integrate within a small team, but also able to work unsupervised with a high level of attention to detail is essential.

 

The successful applicant will have experience of working in a laboratory environment, preferably working to a quality system such as ISO 17025. Knowledge of medical devices and chemical or biological testing methods would be desirable.

 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
