Thank you for your interest in the role of Consultant in General Medicine.

This is an exciting time to be part of an innovative new general medical team within Yeovil District Hospital. In line with the five year plan we have reviewed our Gastroenterology and General Medical provision and are taking the opportunity to work differently. Our new model will allow you to support our key services whilst developing and contributing to your own research in your specialist interest.

This role will be pivotal in providing essential decision making around the best treatment for the patients admitted to the ward and will be responsible for referring and coordinating specialist input.

The post will be integrated within the gastroenterology team which currently consists of 4 consultants and 7 Specialist Nurses

The team currently provide the following inpatient and outpatient services:

  • Inflammatory bowel disease supported by 2 CNS’ who run face to face and telephone follow-up clinics
  • Hepatology supported by 1 CNS including treatment of Hepatitis B & C patients and use of fibroscans

Alcohol and Substance misuse supported by a uniquely experienced nurse specialist prescriber recognised at National level

  • Nutrition supported by 2 CNS’ with twice weekly Consultant led nutritional rounds
  • Upper & Lower GI conditions
  • ERCP’s undertaken by 2 Consultant physicians twice weekly
  • GP Advice and Guidance provided via Consultant Connect
