The Northern Care Alliance NHS Group (NCA) unites five local hospitals to deliver high quality care across the North East of Greater Manchester.

The Alliance provides the benefits of scale but delivers this locally through multiple hospital sites which make up four new Care Organisations – Bury/Rochdale, North Manchester, Oldham and Salford. Using our mantra of ‘Saving lives, Improving lives’, the aim is for our Care Organisations to work closely with the communities they serve to deliver safe, high quality and reliable care, which are trusted, connected and pioneering.

Our Care Organisations are designed to operate within our group arrangement of hospitals, community and healthcare services which bring together over 17,000 staff and the services of The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. Our size and geographical reach means we are creating an environment each individual will be inspired and empowered by to be the best they can be. This is a really exciting time to join our new team.

An opportunity has arisen for a Functional Skills Curriculum Lead, to manage the Functional Skills portfolio for The Northern Care Alliance. Working within our People Development Team; the post holder will be responsible for introducing and implementing the curriculum, for the reformed 2019 Functional Skills standards.

You will ensure the creation of differentiated schemes of work and detailed lesson plans for Maths, English and where required ICT; contextualised in an NHS setting.

You will ensure the learning environment inspires and motivates learners, whilst stretching and challenging them to achieve/exceed their planned learning outcomes. Managing the Functional Skills tutor/s caseloads, you will plan the delivery timetable and all examinations; enabling learners to meet their planned EPA gateway and timely achievement of the full Apprenticeship.

Having in-depth knowledge and experience of BKSB and OneFile functionality; the post holder will ensure the learner journey is fully recorded. Using your IQA qualification and experience you will ensure delivery meets the standards required by awarding body and Ofsted. Embedding Functional Skills within existing apprenticeship programmes will be a key part of this role, and you will be part of a quality focus group with other curriculum leads to ensure opportunities are explored and managed; along with the development of ICT Apprenticeship Qualifications.

Creating reports to show learner progression and achievement, you will use these to manage the performance of the Functional Skills tutor/s, ensuring KPI and quality standards are met. Having a PDE or Teaching qualification, you will also be expected to teach Functional Skills and carry out teaching observations for our quality and evaluation processes. Attention to detail is paramount, as is the excellent customer service and commitment to staff development in line with our values. Travel throughout The NCA will be required for the role.
