Locum Consultant General Paediatrician x 4 (vacant)

Full Time (10 Sessions) Applications will be considered from those wishing to work part time

Duration: These posts will be for a 6 month period. Substantive posts have recently been approved and will be advertised shortly.

Base: 2 Posts will be based at Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny and 2 at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport.

There has never been a more exciting time to join our team as we pioneer new ways of delivering health services across South East Wales. An exciting set of opportunities have been developed in line with our unique and exciting Clinical Futures Model.

We currently have 4 new locum consultant paediatrician opportunities that have arisen to support the Paediatric service at the 2 sites pending reconfiguration of Paediatric services across the Health Board in 2021. Substantive posts have been approved and will be advertised shortly.

The Royal Gwent Hospital locum post holders will join the team of 12 consultant general paediatricians to provide a 1:8 ‘consultant of the week’ ward service and 1:8 consultant on-call for week day nights and weekends. There is a once monthly contribution to the day time Safeguarding Rota. There is no contribution to the Neonatal Unit at Royal Gwent Hospital which has its own dedicated neonatology team and separate rota.

There will be the opportunity to contribute to the training and development of the junior doctors at tiers 1 and 2. The tier 2 (middle grade) rota is currently staffed by 8-9 Paediatric ST4-ST8 trainees provided by the Welsh Deanery.

The Nevill Hall Hospital locum post holders will join the team of 10 general consultant paediatricians to provide ‘consultant of the week’ ward services for Paediatrics and Neonates 3.5 times per year and 1:15 on-call for week day nights and weekends. There is a contribution to Safeguarding.

Locum posts at both sites will also incorporate regular resident middle grade duties on weekday evenings and weekend days.

Nevill Hall and Royal Gwent paediatric teams will merge in 2021 upon the opening of our ambitious new build at The Grange University Hospital. Job plans will be remodelled at that time to achieve greater parity to the meet the challenges of ‘Facing the Future’.

Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC.

Candidates for Consultant posts must also be on the GMC Specialist Register (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR(CP) date within 6 months of interview.
