East Cheshire NHS Trust is looking to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Care of Older People on a permanent basis to support our Orthogeriatric and Frailty services. The post is based at Macclesfield District General Hospital, and attracts 10 PA's.

The post holder will be responsible for the day to day care of inpatients under the supervision of a Consultant Physician. The requirements are to support the acute and rehabilitation wards within the Care of Older People service alongside supervision of junior medical staff, attendance at ward rounds and liaising with General Practitioners and Community Nursing Teams on discharge of patients into the community.

The successful candidate will become a valuable and senior member of the specialty and will be responsible to the consultant physician. We are keen to recruit a candidate with an interest in elderly care and rehabilitation medicine to be a part of developing new approaches to the assessment and management of older people within the community. The post holder will be expected to support service developments and changes in the management of patients in orthopaedics/ frailty.

The post holder will have the opportunity to attend general medical and speciality outpatient clinics and will be expected to provide senior support as part of a multi-disciplinary team whilst participating in the general medicine on-call rota. The post holder will carry out independent ward rounds with junior doctors in the team.

The department is committed to supporting our speciality doctors’ career pathways either through membership qualifications or CESR and will be supported to develop a portfolio and to attend training and multi-disciplinary team meetings.

Macclesfield is a very pleasant Cheshire market town located on the edge of the Peak District. It is within easy travelling distance of many major cities and is only two hours from London by train. Manchester International Airport is less than half an hour away by car. There are opportunities for a wide variety of lifestyle and interests and the area is renowned for good housing and schools.
